You were probably expecting a different announcement around this time, based on the 2025 Intergalactic Update.  Instead, I am announcing yet another delay on the completion of Golems and Kings.  It’s starting – no, not starting, it’s felt this way for a while – to feel like the “easy” story, the “quick” novel, that will never end.  I like to think that I have a better excuse this time, but I still feel guilty for the delay, especially since it keeps recurring.  The story is now almost a year late from when I originally intended to finish it.

This time, the delay is because of lack of writing time.  I’m currently working on a technical masters program, which is unfortunately occupying more of my time than I anticipated – this is the most direct drain on what would normally be writing time, since instead of writing Golems and Kings, I’m spending what would have been writing time writing research papers on additive manufacturing using cislunar resources, or on the potential profitability of a technical architecture for the extraction of non-cryogenic propellants from near-Earth objects.  Combined with my full-time job and a recent move which has been associated with more time devoted to personal logistics and house projects, my writing time is highly curtailed, and keeping up with the weekly book reviews and blog posts is about all I’ve had time for in the last couple of months.  Even that has been a challenge at times.

At risk of being made a liar yet again, I’ll offer September 2026 as a new goal to finish Golems and Kings.  I won’t have classes over the summer, and my personal logistics should have settled down by then, as much as they ever do, which will give me more time for writing.  That also probably means there won’t be many short stories this year, and I may change what I choose to write after Golems and Kings, rather than diving into a major project like Rogue Planet while my masters program is ongoing.  For that, I apologize, and I will certainly keep you posted on my progress, when I have anything to report.  Eventually, you will see Golems and Kings.  It’s just going to take a little longer than I thought.  Again.
