Yes, this story is only nine thousand words, when many other two-part episodes have been closer to fifteen thousand words apiece. So? A short story is not a bad story. Sometimes, a short story is actually a better story.
Blood and Dragons “Behind the Scene”
This is your spoiler warning. If you haven't already read both parts of Blood and Dragons, I do not suggest that you read this post.
Verdon’s Tragedy Sneak Peek
As you hopefully saw in our recent weekly writing update, I finally finished the first draft of Verdon's Tragedy, a side story set in the Fo'Fonas world. Even if revisions go smoothly, I don't expect a release date sooner than December 2022, but I want to share some thoughts about the story and the writing now.
Blood Magic S3:E6: Blood and Dragons, Part Two Release
If I’d plotted the series differently, this could easily have been the climax, the final episode, the end of it all. I didn’t, though, so I hope that means that you’ll all now be on tenterhooks about what the real ending might be like.
Blood Magic S2:E6: Contaminant, Part One Re-Release
In the original release post, I claimed that Kiluron and Doil needed more active roles, and that this should not have been a two-part episode. I disagree with my former self.
Blood Magic S3:E5: Blood and Dragons, Part One Release
In some ways, Blood and Dragons is the easy climax of the series, the obvious one. I’m hoping that I’m able to pull it off where that’s an advantage, and not a problem, because I’m really excited to finally be writing this pair of episodes.
Blood Magic S2:E5: In Contempt Re-Release
I'm not one to pat myself on the back too much, especially with regards to my writing - if anything, I probably spend a little too much time talking about what I perceive as the flaws in the writing that I'm trying to convince all of you to read - but this is just a really good episode, at least to me.
Blood Magic S3:E4: Noble Child Release
This might seem like a little bit of a slow story to some of you, and that’s okay; I don’t want every story to involve a lot of action in the traditional sense.
Blood Magic S2:E4: Fallen Angel Re-Release
I think a lot about writing action scenes. I don’t mean action scenes in the literary sense, but action scenes in the sense that probably attracted a lot of us to speculative fiction in the first place, the kinds of action scenes with flashing swords, sparking wands, roaring dragons, and pirouetting starships.
Blood Magic S3:E3: Making Change Release
For all that I really enjoyed writing this story, and think that you will enjoy reading it, I don’t have very much to say about it. It’s a simple story, really, introducing Arval and providing a little context and a little conflict.
