Week of 08 May to 14 May

I both made as much progress as I wanted to on Blood Magic this week, and not as much as I’d hoped. My original goal was to finish Blood and Dragons, Part Two this week, so that I could revise it together with Part One next week. Unfortunately, that didn’t quite happen, although I did hit the associated word count goal. In other words, Blood and Dragons is going to be another second part that ends up on the long side.

The problem is that there’s a lot that I want to do with Vere in the Spiritual Plane, and it’s a part of the story that I’ve been wanting to write and envisioning for a long time. Deciding what to leave in, what to leave out, and what to potentially extend into subsequent episodes somehow is proving very challenging. This might, in revisions, prove to be my first major instance of being obliged to “cut my darlings,” as the saying goes.

Much more on that in the release post for Blood and Dragons, Part Two, however. For now, suffice to say that my writing time this week was almost entirely focused on that writing, adding well over five thousand words to my previous word count, and that it better be finished and ready for revisions by this time next week.

As for next week, we’re going to be discussing how to implement (or not implement) description in Tuesday’s post, and we’ll have a series review for Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn. Be sure to follow the site to know whenever new content goes live, and I’ll be back next week with another of these weekly writing updates.
