I made some progress on revisions to Principles, which I intend to finish next week (that’s October’s episode), and I did a preliminary revision on Dragon’s Hoard, which I will be submitting to a contest next week.
The Well of Ascension Review
If you haven’t already ready Mistborn: The Final Empire, then I suggest that you read that book before reading this review for its sequel, since I’m not sure that I can completely avoid spoilers for the first book in my review for the second.
Intergalactic Update 2022
Change, that inevitable symptom of all-consuming entropy, that will only stop when entropy wins its final victory, is afoot. It doesn't always feel like it, but IGC Publishing has accomplished a lot in the past year, and I'm looking forward to even more in the year ahead.
Marriage in Speculative Fiction
Love and marriage, as the Frank Sinatra song tells us, go together like a horse and carriage, and while I by no means desire to disparage the institute, that might be a problem when it comes to writing speculative fiction.
Weekly Writing Update
A decent writing week to report this week, hampered by more time than I expected spent on revisions.
Nightfall
Another classic piece of science fiction, this should take you less than an hour to read, but it will set you thinking for long after you've finished it. You might say that it will keep you thinking after Nightfall.
Blood Magic S2:E9: Bread and Steel Re-Release
This almost did not happen. At least, not in the way that you're seeing it. I knew this episode needed significant revisions, especially to the ending, which was a rush job last year to get the episode finished in time for its original release. On my first pass through, which is all that most of these episodes receive, I tried to get it right...and I failed.
Sympathetic Nature
That single, two-word sentence sent me along a tangent about the role and purpose of imagery and sympathetic nature in writing, and why certain concepts, like that of lightning flashing, have such a powerful, dramatic effect on a scene.
Weekly Writing Update
It feels like I did a lot of writing this week, which is only partially true. While I did spend a lot of time working on writing-related things, the actual progress on my main projects was smaller than I wanted, for all that I was accomplishing important tasks.
Mistborn: Final Empire Review
Even before I went on a spate of re-reads this year, I was planning on re-reading Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series. A new book is scheduled to come out in the fall, the last in the second Mistborn era, and I wanted to make sure that I was fresh on the whole story to maximize my enjoyment when I read it.
