With most of my writing, I tend to be a post-outliner. I’ll discovery write my way through a piece, and then go back and outline it in detail before embarking on the revision process. Ever since I did a massive outline for a world and then had no story to tell in it, I’ve found that this method works best for me. Sometimes, though, a different approach is required.
After careful consideration, I’ve decided to proceed with Blood Magic. I intend to publish one “episode” per month, which I think will be viable. These episodes have tended to be about ten thousand words, which I ought to be able to write and revise in a month’s time, especially if I work ahead by a month or two. Rather than publishing them as downloadable PDFs, each story will be freely available directly on the website.
Making this decision, though, required me to be certain that I have enough stories to tell in this world to fill a few seasons. That meant outlining, and I’m pleased to say that I now have episode sketches for three, twelve episode seasons of Blood Magic. My next task is to flesh out the details of the world, create maps, and branding.
Don’t worry: I won’t stop work on my other short stories, novellas, and novels. Progress on those projects will just be a little slower while I’m writing Blood Magic episodes.
I’m pretty excited about this plan, although it will also be a challenge. Look forward to future updates as I build the necessary infrastructure. The release date will probably be sometime this month.
